Rolus Group – Beng Melea Temple

The temple of Phreas Ko was constructed in 879 AD. Phreas Ko was also built by King Indravaraman 1 dedicated Phreas Ko to his ancestors in the concepts of Hindu beliefs. The name of Phreas Ko means ” Sacres Bull ” in khmer.

Phreas Ko temple

The name of Phreas Ko means ” Sacres Bull ” in khmer. The Sacres Bull , because there are three bull statues in good condition still lying down in the compound of the main sanctuary. So the name of the temple comes after these bull statues.

Bakong temple

The temple of Bakong was constructed in 881 at the late 9 century AD. Bakong temple was also built by King Indravaraman 1 ( 877-889). King Indravaraman 1 dedicated Bakong to shiva. Shiva was the destroyer and generator and was the one of major gods in Hinduism . Bakong temple served as a state temple or mountain temple of King Indravaraman 1. A state temple or mountain temple normally referred to a temple which was built by a ruler (King), who used this spot (temple) for his Tomb when he passed away.

Lo lei temple

The temple of Lo lei was built in 893 by in Yasovarman 1 (889-910). The king built this temple in order to dedicated to his ancestors . Actually the word Lo lei means” AN ISLAND ” in Khmer because the location of this temple is right in the middle of the water reservoir . This reservoir is well known as Indratataka. This man made lake was built by King Indravaraman 1 for two purpose; the first reason was to bring the earth , the sky and the water and combined their spirit altogether in prefer to bring good luck to the country.

 

Beng Mealea Temple

This temple was built in the middle 12th century, the temple generally attributed to the successor of Suryavarman 2. Dharanidravarman 2 the Buddhist father of Jayavarman 7. The cult is mix of Buddhism and Hinduism. Notice The temple entrance is 5$ pp. This temple was located some 65km from the siem reap town and we normally take about 1:30h by Tuk Tuk .
